So... I have Keynote '09 (unfortunately) and I followed the steps that Kiran Kumar gave, and I noticed that it worked basically except that the audio clips I had assigned to each slide were chopped out about 2-3 seconds before they were supposed to.... =(

Hi Sigurdur,

Thanks for the head's up, I did not realize the buttons were broken. I will have a look when I get a few moments.

Best,

Ross

Ross...

YOU ROCK!!! This completely works!! The recorded export option was messing up the timing, but using the "fixed time" set to 0 was the solution. It was not 100% perfect, but I reviewed the exported video, made additional timing changes to my slides, and did another export. After 3 exports, it is perfect. Ridiculous that Apple doesn't have this fixed...but after hours of searching, you post saved me!!

If you have a keynote preso

- with auto-transitions with varying slide durations
- with animations (builds)
- and background synced to these builds
- and you don't need a voiceover

and want to convert this into a QT movie.

You cant. Unlike Apple's motto (it just works), it doesn't work.

Here is the hack.

The only way is to choose the 'Recorded Timing' option under Share>Export>QT>Playback Uses

But since you don't need a voiceover, you are not recording anything right. But silly Keynote needs you to record something to enable the 'Recorded Timing' option.

So, mute the microphone, open Inspector, Go to Document, Under 'Slideshow Recording', click on 'Record'.

Now let the entire slideshow run. Once it finishes, what you have is a voiceover that is muted.

You should now be able to see the 'Recorded Timing' option enabled and selected for you.
You should also be able to convert the preso into a movie with all the transitions and music sync intact.

It worked for me. I use Keynote V5.0.3.

Hope this helps.

If you wanted to use it as a light traveller, say between office and home. Does it handle the office productivity apps well enough?
